Unit 5 describes the weaving production techniques of the special 2D and 3D textile structures discussed in the previous units. The various weft insertion techniques are discussed. Also, the 2D-weaving process, employing mono-directional shedding, for weaving some 3D woven structures, including 3D solid orthogonal and angle interlock structures, 3D hollow spacer structures with fabric spacer layers, honeycomb structures, 3D shell structures and 3D nodal structures. Some special 3D-weaving technologies, such as King’s machine, Dow’s machine and Khokar’s machine, are also discussed.
