It also deals with the production of preforms for the composites industries, for many applications, including aerospace engineering. It explains the various production techniques for advanced fibrous architectures, their properties, advantages and disadvantages and applications. New developments are also considered.
Unit 1 is an introduction to the advanced fibrous structures available for use as preforms for composite materials, technical textiles and other technical applications. It deals with the general concepts and the basic fabric structures available for technical applications. It introduces the concept of composite material and the trade statistics of the composite industries. It discusses the main advantages of composites relative to metals.
